ADA Issues Formal Response to “Valuing What We Do”

Dear ADA Members,

Today, ADA formally issued a public response to the American Academy of Audiology’s March/April 2026 Audiology Today President’s Message, “Valuing What We Do.”

This response reflects the collective voice and leadership of ADA’s Board of Directors and Executive Team and reaffirms ADA’s unwavering commitment to advancing audiology as clinical doctoring profession.

In the letter, ADA addresses several critical issues impacting the future of our profession, including the following:

  • The urgent need to modernize state audiology practice acts to align with contemporary doctoral training;
  • Legal, reimbursement, and liability risks created by outdated statutory language, contained in audiology practice acts throughout the nation;
  • The importance of ensuring that audiologists are authorized to evaluate, diagnose, manage, and treat auditory and vestibular conditions, consistent with their education and training;
  • The connection between scope modernization, Medicare reform, and long-term professional sustainability; and
  • ADA’s extensive advocacy efforts related to reimbursement, Medicare policy, and professional autonomy.

Most importantly, the letter underscores a core belief shared by ADA, its members, and thousands of audiologists advocating across the country: Valuing what we do is our motivation for advocating to change outdated laws, reimbursement structures, and healthcare systems to improve access to hearing and balance services for our patients and to improve our standing as clinical doctoring professionals.

We encourage every ADA member to read the full letter and share it with colleagues and state leaders who are engaged in advocacy and modernization efforts.

Together, we will continue fighting for:

  • Better access to care for patients
  • Stronger professional recognition for audiologists
  • Modernized scope of practice laws
  • Fair reimbursement and coverage policies
  • A stronger future for the profession of audiology

Thank you for your continued advocacy, leadership, and commitment to the future of audiology.

Sincerely,

Jill Davis, Au.D.
President
Academy of Doctors of Audiology
