The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that it will exercise enforcement discretion under Reese’s Law for zinc-air button and coin cell batteries used in hearing aids until March 8, 2024, citing possible shortages and a low risk of serious injury. ADA and other organizations submitted requests to the agency to delay enforcement of Reese’s Law and we are pleased that the agency has taken this action.

The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) has prepared a comprehensive resource for ADA members in response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) CY 2023 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule.

This members-only resource includes a breakdown of the CMS provisions, requirements, codes, constraints, and timelines specific to the allowance for certain non-acute hearing assessment services to be eligible for Medicare Part B coverage without a physician order and provides general guidance for audiology practices.

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) distributed a letter to state officials providing important clarifications about the Final Rule on OTC Hearing Aids.

In part, the letter states, “We have received questions about some implications of these actions, including who may prescribe hearing aids and whether medical evaluations are necessary to obtain non-OTC hearing aids, which will be defined as prescription hearing aids under the rule. We clarify below that the final rule:

The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) is pleased to announce that Jason Leyendecker, Au.D. has been elected to serve as ADA President-Elect for the 2023 program year. Dr. Leyendecker is the owner of a private practice in Minnesota with seven locations, including metro and rural locations, and a tinnitus clinic. He serves as a volunteer for several audiology associations and currently serves as the President of the Minnesota Academy of Audiology and Secretary of the Minnesota Sight and Hearing Association. Dr. Leyendecker earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead and an Au.D. from A.T. Still University.
